Jen is a dispute resolution expert with over 20 years’ experience on a broad range of commercial litigation matters.  Her particular expertise includes contract-based construction and infrastructure project disputes (such as NZ3910), multi-party defective building disputes, and claims under the Construction Contracts Act. She also has extensive experience in general contract, tort, and company law proceedings, and has been involved in a number of proceedings involving statute-based claims including the health and pharmaceuticals sectors and the Fair Trading Act.  

Jen has significant experience in project managing all aspects of complex commercial litigation, including assisting senior counsel represent clients at the High Court, appellate courts arbitrations and mediations.  Her professional focus is on preparing matters for trial and assisting parties and counsel at trial.  Her pre-trial expertise includes drafting pleadings, briefing fact and expert witnesses, advancing interlocutory and procedural applications and drafting submissions.  She has considerable trial experience including dealing with complex evidential disputes, preparing cross examination for senior counsel and drafting opening and closing submissions.  

Jen enjoys working as part of a team, having done so at law firms (including when senior counsel are briefed), directly with in-house teams and as part of an in-house team (when on secondment).  She enjoys the challenges of dispute resolution and trial and works effectively under pressure.  She is a strategic and practical thinker and enjoys collaborating to find commercially focussed solutions to a client’s problem.

Prior to joining Mills Lane Chambers, Jen worked at two other major law firms, most recently as Special Counsel at MinterEllisonRuddWatts in the band one ranked construction, infrastructure and energy team.
